With buzz beginning to grow for San Diego Comic Con around the corner, Columbia Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have released new images for their upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower via Entertainment Weekly.
The films synopsis is being kept under wraps at the moment but director Nikolaj Arcel does explain in his interview with EW that the film will model the structure of the first book, The Gunslinger, yet serve as a continuation of the story…sequel to put it lightly. Arcel said:
The hardcore fans of The Dark Tower series will know that this is actually a sequel to the books in a way. It has a lot of the same elements, a lot of the same characters, but it is a different journey. It’s completely circular, cogs and wheels. Everything fits together. It has a great little power to it. It fits very well into the nature of the entire saga itself.
Also in the interview he revealed that though two characters from the book series that won’t appear in this film (Eddie Dean and Susannah), doesn’t mean they won’t appear in the sequels being planned going forward.
They’re certainly out there. I think the entire story deserves to be told and should be told. I would certainly be disappointed in myself or my collaborators if we didn’t bring them in. They’re such a huge part of the story.
The cast of The Dark Tower includes Idris Elba (Roland Deschain), Matthew McConaughey (Man In Black), Abbey Lee (believed to be Tirana), Tom Taylor (Jake Chambers), Jackie Earle Haley, Fran Kranz (Pimli), Katheryn Winnick and Michael Barbieri.
The Dark Tower is set for cinematic release on the 13th January 2017.
