Disney took to Facebook Live to announce moments ago that they developing a sequel to Wreck-It Ralph and will release it on the 9th March 2018.
The FB Live announcement featured John C. Reilly, who will voice the titular not-so-bad bad guy once again in the sequel and original director Rich Moore (who also directed Zootropolis/Zootopia) will return to co-direct with Phil Johnston, who was one of the co-writers of the original. The announcement also showed a still of Ralph going digital, standing over billboards parodying Amazon and Google whiles Vanellope sits on one of his shoulders.
In the announcement John C. Reilly teased about the premise of the sequel:
It’s top secret but I’ll tell you this much… Ralph leaves the arcade and wrecks the Internet. What could go wrong?
Disney Animations Wreck-It Ralph was released in late 2012, made on a budget of $165m and managed to earn over $471m worldwide. Admittedly I’m one of the people that’s not been calling out for a sequel or yearning for it, even though I thought the first film was good but with the premise seeming to focus on Ralph getting either upgraded or sauntering into the digital age of gaming, it’ll be interesting to see how that unfolds.
Wreck-It Ralph 2 is scheduled for cinematic release on the 9th March 2018.
