Deadline exclusively reports that Donald Glover has signed up for a role in the Sony and Marvel Studios film Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The casting news comes as an interesting development when you look back to six years ago (Six years!? Already? Jesus!) when the twitter campaign of #donald4spiderman began when Sony were searching to find their new Spider-Man for The Amazing Spider-Man film, which of course ended up going to Andrew Garfield. Recently, Donald Glover has even been voicing Spider-Man, the Miles Morales Spider-Man, in the animated series The Ultimate Spider-Man and his other recent credits include Magic Mike XXL, The Martian and his upcoming television series Atlanta.
Who will Donald Glover play is anyones guess, but I highly doubt that it will be Miles Morales due to the age of this particular version of Peter Parker. He could be a mentor figure at the school for Peter Parker or he could be the scientist behind that bloody radioactive spider that gives Parker his abilities? Hell why not be the father of Miles Morales at this point!
So far in the cast for Spider-Man: Homecoming we have Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May),Robert Downey Jr (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Zendaya (Michelle) Tony Revolori, Laura Harrier, Michael Barbieri, Michael Keaton and Kenneth Choi.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled for cinematic release on the 7th July 2017.
