Supergirl: Superman Being Cast For Season 2

TV News - Supergirl - Superman Being Cast For Season 2Media outlets today have been reporting that the CW have begun their search for casting for the role of Superman for the second season of Supergirl.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg released a statement on behalf of the show’s producing team, which includes Executive Producers Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, saying:

Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!

It’s unclear whether or not Superman will appear more later in the season but some will assume it’s inevitable that he will. The character has only been shown from afar or backlit to obscure his face during the first season and in the flashback sequences to Krypton, the younger version of Kal-El was played by Daniel DiMaggio.

This news will obviously put some fans into dream casting mode and have Smallville’s own Superman aka Tom Welling, once again play the Man of Steel for this version of the character. Speaking with BuzzFeed back in January, Welling had this to say about playing Superman on Supergirl when quizzed by Jarett Wiselman:

TV News - Tom Welling On Playing Superman in SupergirlIt will be interesting to see who they will cast. Is Ryan McPartlin aka Captain Awesome considered a contender? Will the CW go from someone that is attached/recently had their character killed/left one of their shows on the network? Time will tell.
