Deadline exclusively reports that Dope director Rick Famuyiwa has signed on to direct the solo outing of the Warner Bros/DC Films The Flash starring Ezra Miller.
The news comes a month after Seth Grahame-Smith departed from the project over creative differences after he was attached to direct back in October of last year. The film has Ezra Miller playing the role of Barry Allen/The Flash, who made his first appearance on the big screen last month in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Famuyiwa is currently getting some Emmy-nomination buzz for directing Confirmation, the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas HBO drama that stars Kerry Washington and Wendell Pierce as the two principal characters.
This is a big jump for Famuyiwa in terms of budget in comparison to directing The Wood, Brown Sugar and Dope, but I’m very excited to see how he handles the material as well as direct a superhero film. It will be interesting now to hear who shall be cast in the key roles for the solo film to join Ezra Miller.
The Flash is scheduled for cinematic release on the 3rd March 2018.
