Variety exclusively reports that Jeff Bridges and Taylor Kitsch are the latest names to join the ensemble for the as of yet untitled firefighter biopic from Black Label Media.
The film is set to follow Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of firefighters that faced one of the deadliest wildfires in history back in the summer of 2013, the Yarnell Hill Fire, in order to save an Arizona town, resulting in the tragic death of nineteen crew members. Bridges and Kitsch will be playing firefighters in the film. They’ll be joining a cast that includes Josh Brolin, Miles Teller and James Badge Dale. Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy and Oblivion) is attached to direct, with Kev Nolan developing the story and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Erik Howsam, Jeremy Steckler of Conde Nast Entertainment, Dawn Ostroff, Mike Menchel, Black Label Media’s Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill serving as Producers. Lionsgate will be distributing the film worldwide through its Summit Entertainment label.
It’s a tragic story and it will be a tough biopic to nail down in a way that we haven’t seen before in comes of setting on the big screen (some may make instant comparisons to 2004 firefighter film Ladder 49 but still not necessarily the same). The ensemble is well rounded and with Kosinski being attached, I hope the film won’t rely more on making the effects grand and characters put second, if you know what I mean.
