Warner Bros. have officially announced that Meg, a sci-fi/action film starring Jason Statham and Fan Bingbing, is scheduled for a 2nd March 2018 release.
The film is based on the novel written by Steve Alten, which the film will have us following former Naval deep sea diver Jonas Taylor, whose military career ended in disgrace after his team encountered a living Megalodon – an extinct species of shark believed to reach up to sixty feet in length. With his team destroyed by the beast and Taylor regarded as a crackpot, he’s offered a chance at redemption when an international underwater observation program led by Chinese scientists encounters the same beast. To save the scientists, Taylor must confront his own fears as he embarks on a likely suicide mission.
The film is being directed by Jon Turtletaub on an adapted screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, with Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Belle Avery and Colin Wilson serving as Producers and Wei Wayne Jiang, Barrie M. Osborne, Randy Greenberg and Gerald R. Molen serving as Executive Producers.
I’m not going to lie, this Moby Dick-esque film had me at Statham vs a shark…it literally could’ve just been titled ‘Statham vs Shark’ and it would already have my money.
Meg is scheduled for cinematic release on the 2nd March 2018.
