Though they don’t know what character he’s supposedly set to sign up for, they claim a source tells them that it appears to be for a villain role. This will mark the third collaboration between the actor and director after their previous work together in Oscar Grant III biopic Fruitvale Station and Rocky spinoff/continuation Creed. Black Panther (written and directed by Coogler) will have us following T’Challa, the warrior king of Wakanda which is Marvel’s fictional African nation that is rich in an unbreakable alloy called vibranium and the character was recently introduced to audiences in Captain America: Civil War, with much praise going to Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of the character amongst the huge ensemble. Yesterday it was reported that actress Lupita Nyong’o was in negotiations for a role in Black Panther also.
Well this potential casting news has certainly generated some buzz online and can’t say I can blame them with the talent that they’re adding to the Black Panther solo film and after his initial appearance in Civil War, I’m definitely hyped for this film. I’m sure there will be some memes and jokes doing the rounds about how every actor should attempt to take on The Human Torch character in a doomed Fantastic Four film in future to then have a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe down the line a few years later (Michael B. Jordan and Chris Evans have played the character in the last few attempts).
Black Panther is scheduled for cinematic release on the 16th February 2018.
