Deadline reports that DC Comics are back in business with NBC as their comedy themed pilot Powerless has been picked up and given a series order by the network.
The premise of Powerless is as follows:
In the first comedy series set in the universe of DC Comics, we follow Emily, a spunky young insurance adjuster specialising in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes. It’s when she stands up to one of these larger-than-life figures (after an epic battle messes with her commute) that she accidentally becomes a cult hero in her own right … even if it’s just to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.
Vanessa Hudgens stars in the lead role as Emily and also included in the cast are Danny Pudi (Teddy, Emily’s best friend at work), Alan Tudyk (Del, Emily’s new boss) and Christina Kirk (Jackie, Del’s new personal assistant). Powerless will work as a single-camera workplace comedy (sound familiar) and though the concept is interesting enough to get me to check out the first few episodes, I hope the characters and storylines will keep me returning but I’m skeptical in terms of the shows potential longevity.
