Deadline exclusively reports that New Line Cinema have acquired the rights to Life In Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina and have hired Remember The Titans screenwriter Gregory Allen Howard to adapt the biography of Misty Copeland.
Misty Copeland made history by becoming the first African American woman to be promoted to principal dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre. The bestselling book was published in early 2014 and the report goes on to state that the film will chronicle her humble beginnings and effort to reach that pinnacle. Offspring Entertainment’s Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot will produce with Philip Sandhaus. While known for writing for Remember The Titans and Ali, Deadline point out that Gregory Allen Howard is a life-long dance aficionado who has over the years watched some of the great ballet companies.
It doesn’t surprise me that someone has snapped up the rights to Misty Copeland’s biography as it is an interesting and uplifting story to tell and it will be interesting to see how her story gets adapted for the big screen as well as who will play Copeland.
