The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reports that Jack O’Connell has been cast in the lead role in a limited series from Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank for Netflix, Godless.
Godless is set in 1884, focusing on a character named Frank Griffin, a menacing outlaw who is terrorising the West as he hunts down Roy Goode, his son-like partner-turned-mortal enemy. While Roy hides at Alice Fletcher’s ranch, Frank’s chase leads him to the quiet town of La Belle which is mysteriously made up entirely of women.
Jack O’Connell will be playing Roy Goode, the injured outlaw on the run from his former boss who was orphaned at a young age and was taken in by Griffin who ultimately breaks up a robbery and takes off with the loot, splitting from his father figure after he no longer can stomach his behaviour. O’Connell has been making some waves in the States after his stints on television and films in England (Skins, ’71), appearing in the lead of Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken as well as the upcoming Money Monster.
Jack O’Connell is tremendously talented and putting him in a western drama? Sign me up!
