The Hollywood Reporter exclusive reports that director Ava DuVernay has departed from DreamWorks sci-fi project Intelligent Life.
Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow and his collaborator Derek Connolly have penned the script about a U.N worker in a department that was created to represent humankind in the event of alien contact. The man falls in love with a mysterious woman who turns out to be an alien. Lupita Nyong’o is still attached to star as the mysterious woman/alien. Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment is producing the project along with Frank Marshall, Trevorrow and the production banner Big Beach.
Sources indicate that DuVernay has left due to scheduling conflicts, with some believing that is due to her attachment on directing duties for Disney’s fantasy adaptation of A Wrinkle In Time, based on the children’s book classic by Madeleine L’Engle. Admittedly I am disappointed that DuVernay has departed on the project as I was interested in seeing how she would do within the sci-fi genre but these things happen, so it will be interesting to see who gets attached to direct next.
