Deadline exclusively reports that Teyonah Parris is in talks to star in Pantheon of Women’s Buffalo Soldier Girl.
Buffalo Solider Girl tells the story of a woman who, disguised as a man, enlisted and fought with the African American Post Civil War era as a ‘Buffalo Soldier.’ The film is being directed by Christine Swanson for production company Pantheon of Women (a production company founded by Alicia Goodrow, Donna Fujimoto Cole, and Deborah Kainer), working on a screenplay written by Sarah Bird. Sarah Bird is a best-selling author and has been named Best Austin Author four times by the readers of the Austin Chronicle, the screenplay also happens to be a winner of the Meryl Streep Writer’s Lab Screenwriting Competition.
Teyonah Parris credits include Dear White People, Mad Men and Chi-Raq, interestingly if she were to join the project she will be reuniting with director Christine Swanson after working together in the upcoming biopic Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story, which will air on TV One. I never heard of the production company until earlier tonight and the story absolutely intrigues me for the era in which they’re telling the story.
