Deadline exclusively reports that John Krasinski has been cast in the lead role of Amazon series Jack Ryan.
The Amazon series will be an adaptation of Tom Clancy’s popular CIA hero, with Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland working on this particular project which has landed at Amazon Studios which has not yet been greenlit but with this casting announcement, it seems it is only a matter of time before the Jack Ryan project gets a full order officially.
The series will not be a direct adaptation of any of the novels but the series will be a new take of Jack in his prime as a CIA analyst/operative so there will be no origin story told from the get go. Jack Ryan has appeared a few times on the big screen in Alec Baldwin (The Hunt For Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger), Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears) and recently Chris Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit).
We’ve come a long way since the days of Jim at The Office for Krasinski and it will definitely be an interesting role for him to take on and personally I can see Jack Ryan being told better in television form so I’ll be keeping an eye on how this develops later in the year.
