The Hollywood Reporter revealed yesterday that Alicia Vikander has been cast as Lara Croft for the MGM and Warner Bros. reboot project.
This film will tell the story of a young and untested Lara Croft fighting to survive her first adventure. Directing the film is Roar Uthaug who directed the Norwegian disaster film The Wave.
Tomb Raider started off as a video game franchise back in 1996 which was then rebooted in 2013 and it also managed to spawn off into two feature films in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003) which had Angelina Jolie in the Lara Croft role.
Alicia Vikander has a huge year in 2015 starring in Ex Machina, The Man From U.N.C.L.E and The Danish Girl, which earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and will be appearing in the upcoming Jason Bourne and Tulip Fever films.
While some may be disappointed that the Daisy Ridley rumour for the role didn’t come to be official, personally this makes me even more interested in the project bringing in Vikander for the Lara Croft role as she’s a terrific actress and by the sounds of the quick premise for this film, it sounds like it will go along the lines of the video game reboot games.
