In an exclusive report from Deadline it appears that Paramount Pictures and Gary Sanchez Productions are moving forward with a sequel to the 2015 comedy Daddy’s Home starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.
The premise for Daddy’s Home is as follows:
Stepdad, Brad Whitaker, is a radio host trying to get his stepchildren to love him and call him Dad. But his plans turn upside down when the biological father, Dusty Mayron, returns.
Daddy’s Home earned $240m worldwide at the box office on a budget believed to be around the $50m mark and an interesting fact, it happens to be Will Ferrell’s highest grossing live-action film (even passing Elf!) to date so on that note it makes sense that the studio is moving ahead with a sequel idea. The report states that Will Ferell and Mark Wahlberg will be back to reprise their roles while it’s unknown as of yet as to whether or not original cast members Hannibal Buress, Linda Cardellini and Thomas Haden Church will be returning. Sean Anders and John Morris are also returning to write the script while Anders will be on directing duties once again.
Personally if there was a Ferrell/Wahlberg sequel in the works I would’ve preferred it to be The Other Guys but I still haven’t checked out Daddy’s Home yet and with a sequel on the cards I guess I might as well give it a go.
