Deadline reported last night that MTV have decided to renew The Shannara Chronicles for a second season.
Based on the international best-selling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks, The Shannara Chronicles was adapted into a television series by Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville/Into The Badlands) and the official synopsis for the show is as follows:
An Elvish tree, known as the Ellcrys, is dying. The bad news is that the tree has been the only piece of magic that protects the Four Lands from the Demon World. Amberle Elessedil is the only one who can save the tree. But she has to unlock magic that the Elves haven’t used in thousands of years. With the help of Wil Ohmsford, she travels to find the lost magic. But it won’t be an easy task.
Executive Vice President and Head of Scripted Development at MTV, Mina Lefevre said:
This dream team delivered a beautiful, ground breaking show with compelling stories and character journeys which brought in new viewers.
The show aired it’s last episode of Season 1 back on the 1st March and there was uncertainty as to where or not it would be returning on MTV next year. I’ve only seen the first few episodes as its been airing the series here and while it’s definitely flawed, it has potential once they figure out exactly how to tighten the storytelling nuts and bolts together. The cast of Shannara Chronicles includes Poppy Drayton, Austin Butler, Invana Baquero, Aaron Jakubenko, Emilia Burns and Manu Bennett.
