Marvel announced last night that Daredevil Season 2 showrunners Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez will be showrunners on the Marvel/Netflix series The Defenders.
The Defenders is a mini-series special event which will bring all the lead characters of the Marvel/Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist) together and put them together to take on their biggest threat yet.
Netflix Vice President of Original Content, Cindy Holland said:
Doug and Marco captivated our members around the world with their continuation of the story of Matt Murdock in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’ and we can’t wait to see how they and Drew will introduce the full Defenders team to our global audience.
Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb said:
We’re incredibly excited to be able to bring our four street level heroes together in an epic tale woven by Doug and Marco whose work on ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’. They write and produce not only great action and adventure, but also the heart and touch of humor that’s makes us Marvel. With the inclusion of Drew Goddard, we’ve got a team that’s as formidable as the Defenders themselves.
Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez came out and said:
This is the big one. Four amazing casts, four amazing series, now all in one amazing story. We are thrilled at the opportunity to deliver the show that both we and the fans have been waiting for.
Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones will be reprising their roles as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist respectfully and also Drew Goddard will be on the project as an Executive Producer. I guess it makes sense that they’re bringing in Petrie and Ramirez to handle a big ensemble as regardless of your opinions on how a few of the storylines were handled in the second season of Daredevil, I thought with the multiple characters/storylines that were told throughout the season I thought they done well with the overall execution and giving several characters at least a big moment to shine in that season.
