Variety exclusively reports that Sony are in early discussions with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart to star in their remake of 1995 film Jumanji.
The duo are the proclaimed ‘two of the busiest actors in town’ and according to insiders they’re working out scheduling details as both of them are in heavy production on other projects but it they say that things are moving towards a deal between them and the studio. The duo will be starring in the upcoming New Line action comedy Central Intelligence later in the year and it looks like Sony want to capitalise on their chemistry together to bring into this new adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s original 1981 adventure book. Jake Kasdan is on board as director of the film.
I believe that Sony are trying to get Dwayne and Kevin on board this project as it will be an instant profit maker for them but I’m struggling to see how the two of them will find the time to lead this film as Dwayne Johnson is currently filming Moana and Baywatch, Fast 8 is about to begin shooting and then there’s San Andreas 2 and Rampage waiting in the wings whilst Kevin Hart on the other hand may be starring in The Intouchables remake but his scheduled is not as concrete busy as Johnson’s.
Jumanji is set for a cinematic release on the 28th July 2017.
