Deadline exclusively reports that The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons is set to join the cast of Fox 2000’s Hidden Figures.
The story centres on Katherine Johnson, a brilliant African-American mathematician who, along with her colleagues Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson, served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history; the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and his safe return. The three women crossed all gender, race and professional lines while embarking on the mission. Spencer will play one of the three mathematicians. Glenn flew the Friendship 7 mission in 1962 and became the first American to orbit the Earth.
Jim Parsons, mostly known for his comedic roles, is set to be playing the role of the head engineer at the Space Task Group at NASA and will be joining a cast that includes Taraji P. Henson (Katherine Johnson), Octavia Spencer (Dorothy Vaughn), Janelle Monáe (Mary Jackson), Kevin Costner (Head of the Space Program), Kirsten Dunst, Mahershala Ali and Glen Powell (John Glenn).
Hidden Figures is scheduled for cinematic release on the 13th January 2017 (US) and the 24th February 2017 (UK).
