Yesterday Collider stated that they’ve learned from sources that Margot Robbie is on board for the David Ayer’s Suicide Squad film to play Harley Quinn. David Ayer described the upcoming film as ‘I can say that it’s a Dirty Dozen with supervillains’. There’s still the assumption that Jared Leto will appear in the film as The Joker, based on TheWrap‘s report that Leto eyeing a role that ‘could prove to be The Joker’.
If true on Robbie playing Harley Quinn, this will be the characters big screen outing and when Harley appears, The Joker isn’t too far behind in some way. Harley Quinn, originally introduced in the classic Batman: The Animated Series, is formerly known as Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzell, M.D, and was a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum that volunteered to analyze The Joker, then becomes fascinated by him during their sessions and The Joker eventually manipulates her to the point that she helps him escape from Arkham Asylum and becomes his well known on/off accomplice.
It’ll be interesting to see if this will end up being true or not, Collider aren’t normally spot on but despite being very much impressed with Margot Robbie in Wolf of Wall Street, I can’t tell yet because I only have one film, which she was good in, and one role from television in Neighbours, which was not so good, whether or not she’ll be a good fit or not. Robbie will be appearing in Focus, Z for Zachariah and Tarzan within the next few years. Also assuming if Leto as The Joker will become a thing then I’ll accept, after Nightcrawler I’m firmly onboard with the idea of Jake Gyllenhaal getting a shot at playing The Joker, though Leto is hardly an awful choice. Both if we’re getting The Joker and Harley Quinn appearing in the Suicide Squad film, it can’t be a bad thing for the films appeal.
Suicide Squad is scheduled for a 2016 release.
